before you come

Before you come, you need to know some little things like how to go about booking a flight or how to get visas, what papers you will need in order to be allowed in Bolivia or South America and many other tips for your stay in our continent

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS:

International Flights from home to Bolivia must be arranged by you. However our travel consultants can help you book your flights.

Allow 1 spare day before tour departure and one day after tour ends in order to arrive and depart from Bolivia.

All flights using Avianca or Latam arrive in La Paz between 02:00 a.m. and 04:00 a.m. so we recommend that if you take one of those flights use that day as a day off before starting the tour. These companies fly via Lima or Bogota with really long wait between flights.

On the other hand the Bolivian Airline BOA has flights from Madrid or Barcelona straight to Bolvia with  only one scale in Santa Cruz (30-50 min. already  in Bolivia) and finally arrives in La Paz around 07:00 a.m. They normally leave Madrid or Barcelona for Bolivia around 21:00.

INTERNAL FLIGHTS:

Some expeditions include flights in Bolivia or in South America, All internal flights during  your expeditions will be included.

It depends on your nationality. Check out the following link to find out if you need to get a visa before coming: Group 1

This list is of those countries that can get the visa upon arrival.

If you are from a Country that is not listed on the link ask our travel consultant to assist you in that matter.

Travel insurance is compulsory, participants without adequate travel insurance will not be taken in the group and will be forced to purchase a Travel Insurance from a Local Insurance Company in order to start the Tour. Make sure if you will do an adventure tour, your travel insurance covers adventure Tours like white water rafting, trekking & climbing, horse riding and altitude diseases. Make sure your Travel Insurance covers personal liability and repatriation too.

if your expedition includes Brazil or areas below 2.000 m in the Amazon Basin, you should get yellow fever vaccination as a first step to come to South America. Other recommendations on vaccinations visit a Travel Clinic.

Only a couple of Tours require good body conditions. Ask your travel consultant about the physical demand on each tour.

If you have a special condition, inform please our travel coultant so that you get the right advice before you come.

There will only be a short list of activities that you will be able to choose from on that free day in the cities as we have included the most important attractions on each Tour. No local payment, however while in the cities you will have to pay for dinners normally. Your voucher/itinerary will have the day by day with exclusions and inclusions.

Those taking standard tours must know that simple hotels up to 3 stars and hostels  don’t have that person to carry your luggage, so all participants must carry their own bag and lift it into the Hotel and to the room or storage areas.

Tips to tour leaders.

In the unlikely event you meet a landslide, civil protest, bad weather conditions outside the control of our Company, and the tour leader is forced to find another mean of transport, hire boats or pack animals to get through and that implies an extra payment, the tour leader together with a member of the group will negotiate with the locals prices and rates which will be paid by the entire group.

Your tour leader will be with you throughout the entire tour, from the beginning to the end, to ensure everything goes well. But have in mind that tourists are a tempting target for pick pockets and scams. In general Bolivia is safe and Peru as well. However you will have some free days to be on your own in big Cities so we recommend to bring money belt for the safe keeping of your valuables.

Your experienced Tour Leader will be able to give the right advice accordingly.

ARRIVING IN THE ALTITUDE

An English Speaking Specialist Doctor will be available when you arrive in La Paz to check you out.

Your tour leader will have a range of available doctors to call in the case someone gets ill.

Oxygen will always be available for those trips going to high altitudes. This is used only when needed under a proven bad condition of the client. Our tour leaders and guides are all well trained in First Aid. We will always take with us the basic tools for emergency attention and basic pills needed. If you are taken special pills for certain diseases please bring them along with you.

Water is not drinkable in Bolivia, even when Bolivians drink it from the tap we recommend you to buy bottled water.

You will see plenty of stalls on the streets of South America, locals feed from them, ask your tour leader whether is safe to have some food on the street.

When ever you go on the streets, have always coins for paying for the use of public toilets. Ask your  tour leader when you need a toilet, he/she will know exactly where there are toilets in the City.

Beggars are not dangerous, how ever they expect a coin form every passers-by. You are not forced to give them money.

Locals just do not like to be photographed. Ask your tour leader whether it is possible to take photos.

Snacks can be purchased all around Bolivia at any time on the streets, each block will have one stall selling snacks, soft drinks and water.

Souvenir vendors will always charge more to tourists, ask your tour leader if the prices are correct.

This can be a problem when you bring your mobile charger. Ask your travel consultant to send you a photo of what the plugs here look like.

Do not be surprised if your Tour leader along with the drivers or local guides have a dish of food in the middle of the morning. That is our sacred SAJRA HORA, all the people in Bolivia eat some food between breakfast and lunch.

Road blocks occur at any moment, and when locals protest they just go on the road and block it. If that happens our Tour Leader will explain to you about it and straight away will find a solution, in order to provide an alternative activity, that is why we have a Tour Leader so that he/she can sort out those problems.
